Club Projects - New

Butterfly Sanctuary Certification
We assist Club members, community organizations, and residents in selecting larval and nectar plantings that qualify for FFGC butterfly sanctuary certification. Chairs: Jean Foley, Terri Pinder, Stephanie Flicker.

Design & Horticulture
At each meeting throughout the year, Phyllis Gidley will discuss one of her designs, and Jean Foley will add to our horticulture knowledge.

Rain Barrels
The Club has a new water conservation project. We adapt and install donated rain barrels for Habitat for Humanity homeowners; teach Club members to do this for their own homes; and, cooperate with Florida Yards and Neighborhoods’ Fred Burkey, to share know-how with community members. Chairs are Li Roberts, Conservation and Donna Wigdahl, Habitat. See Li Roberts at 220-8000 or Cyndy Trossbach at 283-1529 if you are interested.

Workshop & Design Classes
This year there will be one workshop, Contrived Flowers, on Monday, February 11, 2008. A series of six accredited classes, Floral Design, will be held on October 24, November 15, and December 13, 2007, and January 24, February 21, and March 13, 2008. Chair: Cyndy Trossbach.

Secret Gardens Tour & Expo
Volunteer now. Our civic budget depends on the success of the March 29 & 30 fundraisers. See our website [www.gardenclubofstuart.org] for info and Tour tickets. Jan Crandall and Melinda Twichell chair the Gardens Tour. Susan Steen chairs Expo, with Fran Shaw again developing the seminar program.

Mothers & Infants Striving for Success
We are donating design and plants for a gardening & meditation space to assist women as they rebuild their lives. Chair, Sharon Brossman.

National Garden Week
June 4 – 9, 2007 - Flower Designs by Club members were placed in six Martin County Libraries and Stuart City Hall, and planters of flowers were delivered to 14 Habitat for Humanity homeowners. A proclamation lauding National Garden Week and The Garden Club of Stuart was presented by Mayor Mary Hutchinson. Mary Lou Marshall chaired this project. Donna Wigdahl chaired the Habitat planters.

Treasure Coast Hospice
Volunteers from The Garden Club of Stuart and the Master Gardeners redesigned, replanted, and expanded the butterfly and rose gardens at the Treasurer Coast Hospice facility on Indian Street. Hospice received an FFGC butterfly sanctuary certification at a well-attended rededication held this past Spring. Our grateful thanks to Jean Foley and her committee. Volunteers are still needed.

Stuart In Bloom
The Garden Club co-sponsors this first local participation in the nationwide competition to showcase our community’s gardens, public spaces, environmental projects and much more. Donna Berger is SIB treasurer.
